But he was pierced for our transgressions;
    he was crushed for our iniquities;
upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace,
    and with his wounds we are healed. 
 
Isaiah 53:5  
 
The Messiah has been betrayed by whom he loved, and persecuted by the ones he came to save. The evil one has won or, he believes he has but little does he know of the plan to save humanity from the entrapment of sin. 
The cross pattern and the overlocked seams represents the healing process we go through when Jesus died on the cross for our sins.
